Short Courses

Short Courses provide targeted professional development opportunities that equip participants with practical skills, enhance leadership capabilities, and deepen knowledge in priority areas. Through high-quality training, networking, and knowledge exchange, participants strengthen their ability to drive positive change within their organisations and communities.

The program supports emerging leaders, professionals, and changemakers from government, private sector, academic, and civil society organisations to address development challenges and contribute to the Solomon Islands’ national priorities. In addition to building individual capacity, Short Courses foster lasting professional networks and strengthen links with Australia and the broader Pacific region, encouraging collaboration, innovation, and the sharing of expertise to support sustainable development outcomes.

How to Apply

Applications for Short Course Scholarships are announced throughout the year. Interested applicants should regularly monitor this website and the Australian High Commission's Facebook page for information on upcoming opportunities, application opening dates, and program updates.

Active Courses

The following courses are currently delivered in collaboration with the Solomon Islands National University (SINU):

  • Graduate Certificate in Higher Education Teaching and Learning (GCHETL)

Delivered in partnership with the University of Technology Sydney, the GCHETL builds the capacity of Solomon Islands SINU academic staff to deliver high-quality, inclusive, and culturally responsive tertiary education. The eight-subject program covers curriculum and assessment design, inclusive pedagogy, Solomon Islands knowledge systems, educational technology and responsible AI use, reflective practice, research, leadership, and professional development.

Upon completion, participants are able to redesign courses and assessments, strengthen student learning and inclusion, lead curriculum review and quality assurance initiatives, mentor colleagues, and contribute to SINU’s goal of independently delivering an accredited teaching qualification. To date, the program has trained 60 SINU academic staff since 2024, with a further 25 staff scheduled to commence studies in September 2026.

  • Graduate Certificate in Fisheries Management and Development

Delivered in collaboration with the Australian National Centre for Ocean Resources and Security (ANCORS) at the University of Wollongong, the Graduate Certificate in Fisheries Management and Development builds the capacity of Pacific fisheries managers and officials to effectively manage and develop oceanic and coastal fisheries. The program strengthens knowledge and skills in fisheries governance, sustainable resource management, policy, and development, while supporting regional cooperation and building institutional capability across the Pacific.

Upon completion, participants will be equipped to contribute to sustainable fisheries management, support fisheries-based economic development, strengthen policy and regulatory frameworks, and advance national and regional fisheries priorities. The program also supports SINU to develop and deliver high-quality fisheries education and training programs.

To date, the program has trained 10 staff from the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources since 2023, with a further six Ministry staff scheduled to complete their studies in September 2026.
