Meet Jean Uwesi, an Australia Awards alumna and University of Adelaide Law graduate, who returned to Solomon Islands to empower women in Green Valley,
With support from the Australia Awards Alumni Support Grant, she brought together 50+ women for a two-days of Fabric Art Training.
Women learned fabric dyeing and screen-printing, creating colourful lavalava sold locally and overseas. “After the training, I was able to dye and sell my own lavalava, even sending some overseas to support my family,” shared single mother Pricilia Bokolonga.
Co-facilitated with John Fadama, the initiative- helped build skills, confidence, and economic opportunities for women, inspiring community change.
