Solomon Islands
Australia Awards Alumnus, Edmond Junior Bate’e, has recently returned from the 2025 Waste to Energy Conference in Australia with bold ideas to tackle Solomon Islands growing waste problem.
Through Australia Awards and his employer, Tropic Group Builders Ltd, Edmond joined global experts to explore how waste can become a clean energy source through technologies like pyrolysis and gasification.
“Waste is not just a problem — it’s a resource,” says Edmond, who is calling for stronger partnerships, local pilot projects, and even an independent waste management body to build a cleaner future for Solomon Islands.
